Although his life was cut short, the impact of his spirit is great.The horrific events that took place shortly after midnight on October 7, 1998 went against everything that Matthew embodied. Two men, Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson, lead him to a remote area east of Laramie where they demonstrated unimaginable acts of hate. Matthew was tied to a split-rail fence where he was beaten and left to die in the cold of the night. A start of what brought about the Wrath of the conservatives against the Clinton's that endures to this day. I know,I as a Gay man who lived through those days. I thank President Bill Clinton and Hillary for the work and vision.The first administration to bring these issues of discrimination to the fore front.Now we have a new leader and new times. Its time to overturn even this type of discrimination as promised.Thank you President Obama for the help in passing the Matthew Shepard Act as promised..I hope President Obama will continue to live up to HIS promises.
